Strategies & Tips[]

As a Phoenix[]

This fearsome predator is essentially a more powerful version of the Demonic Imp, with the ability to eat all the same prey items plus a few Non-playable Entities, including the Tyrannosaurus, a food exclusive to the Phoenix, although it can't eat the Giant Rat.

  • If there are no edible players around, and the bosses are not present, try to eat Tyrannosauruses, Mammoths, or Woodpeckers. Those creatures might not dish out EXP very much, but they give the most EXP out of any of the standard non-playable entities you can eat. Also, since the reapers are the only other ones that can eat them and it does not award them EXP, you can almost always find plenty of Tyrannosauruses to devour. If you cannot find any Tyrannosauruses, however, RUN AWAY. It is likely that a reaper has killed all the Tyrannosauruses, and they will go after you without hesitation, given your huge XP boost.
    • After eating the Tyrannosauruses, you can check the Black Widow caves in the Jungle and then eat the Tyrannosauruses again. In addition, you can also check the caves left of the Black Widow cave to see if there's any prey to eat. If there are no players, eat any Woodpeckers you see as they're common in the Jungle.
    • Don't worry about that very much, as reapers won't usually kill NPC food beside from needing to heal. Meaning that they most likely won't kill the bosses. If a high HP reaper kills those NPCs, they're most likely a troll.
  • You must use your ability well, as your regular bite does little damage. Your ability will set all prey in a small radius around you on fire, ignoring tiles in its range, and it burns them quickly. Try to prevent prey on fire from reaching the water, and if they do, burn them again on the way out. The ideal case is if an animal accidentally falls in it (or you push it there), since you'll get that player stuck and under the effects of being burned by lava while being able to burn it with your ability if the poor victim is near the surface.
  • You are the first animal being able to eat Tyrannosauruses, but don't be drawn by this too much, as they give little XP. The same is true for other non-playable entities. Monsters (Mummy, Black Widow, Yeti), however, give substantial XP. A good strategy is to try to kill monsters, eating players you find along the way. However, they have the same EXP reward as Ravens. If you see a Pterodactyl Child, a Pterodactyl, or a Swamp Monster, it may be a good idea to chase it seeing they're your best sources of XP.
  • Your ability is extremely effective on crowded servers. Try to land in a bunch of unexpected players and use your ability to set them all on fire. They will scramble and bump into each other likely getting you at least one kill.
  • An effective strategy is to stay near a water pool. If you manage to set a prey on fire, try to go under it and push it up when it tries to enter the water. If it makes it into the water, burn it again upon its exit and try to block it again.
  • If a reaper is chasing you, you have two options, the ability being neither of them. Your ability does no damage to predators. The best way is to go underground into a narrow tunnel where they can't chase you. If you're in the Demonic biome, you can use the lava to deter the predator, but be careful as it can land on top of you, trapping you in the lava and only losing some health.
  • Ignore Cosmic Bats until you are close to evolution. If you see a Cosmic Bat, don't evolve or your evolution will be munched upon easily, except if you evolve in a cave too small for the Cosmic Bat.
  • Don't trust Cosmic Bats either. If they try to team or use the heart emoji, they're most likely wanting to trick you so they can consume you once you evolve.
  • You can go to the sewers as there are many different prey in it, due to it being cramped, you can easily get kills (Rats get in the way easily), you can even hunt other prey (Mad bats, or anything that also likes to crawl in the sewers), which give a generous amount of exp.

As a prey of the Phoenix[]

  • The biggest issue is its ability, which will burn you very quickly most likely leading to death. That being said, stay far away from a Phoenix if you see one. It may be a good idea to stick close to a body of water as well, and do not get by other players; the Phoenix will target all of you.
  • It does little damage without its ability (smaller than the contact damage done by the Demonic Imp), so attempt to stay in the water if you happen to be targeted. Be careful when leaving to replenish air however, it will use its ability to set you on fire again.
  • Be especially careful when you are a Pterodactyl. The Phoenix's ability bypasses your tough skin ability and the hitbox of Pterodactyl is gigantic, making it easier to set you on fire and kill you. Also, due to your high level, if a reaper kills them, they will most likely kill you as well.
  • DO NOT let a phoenix go under your own hitbox. They can push you up and preventing any access of water, thus permanently sealing your death.
  • If you happen to be a Duck, Pelican, or Seagull, bait the Phoenix to a big body of water (like the large lake near the middle of the map or the ocean on the middle right, but be careful of Sharks, though), as your skill can outrun predators, thus when you head to those two locations, you can extinguish fires without worrying about predators with wide hitboxes trapping you.
    • However, picking any of those bodies of waters can be a risk, as the predators will most likely camp above the water to strike whenever you rise up. And if you choose the ocean, you may bump into a Shark by accident and takes lots of damage.

As a predator of the Phoenix[]

  • Due to its 2x1 hitbox, this animal can enter most of the cave system and all of its predators have a very restrictive hitbox in terms of underground movement. If the prey goes down a narrow corridor, you won't be able to get close enough to use your scythe. Fortunately for the predator, the Phoenix cannot see in the dark, so use that as an advantage in big caves to avoid the Phoenix from getting in places you can't reach.
  • When this animal drinks, use their hitbox as a platform to attack with your active ability. Be extremely careful if the Phoenix is drinking in lava, however. It can move quickly in the lava while you can't, so if you're not careful, you can become trapped and die, especially if the Phoenix flies on top of you. The Phoenix can also go deeper into the lava to avoid you, though this is very risky for it, but if it decides to do that, don't go after it; you will die from the lava first. As a Grim Reaper, it's a little less risky to go for a Phoenix in the lava since you only need 3 hits, but be extremely careful, you don't want to lose all your XP.
  • The Phoenix's ability only affects prey and not predators, so do not fear its ability.

Trivia[]

  • The ability has a radius of about 2-3 tiles.
    • The ability can also go through any type of tiles, so if there's a 1 tile wall with you on one side and a player on the other, the ability will set it on fire, even if the tile is an ice block. Due to this, you can also set on fire any target that has accidentally fallen in the lava/magma.
  • The ability can hit alive Non-playable Entities, but you should use it for players since you can eat the non-playable entities with ease.
  • It is one of the three animals besides the Demonic Imp and the Dragon that can set fire on another player.
  • It is one of the biggest animals.
  • If you look closely, you'll see that its eyes are red and slowly circle around, which only makes it look more scary.
    • In the original design, the eyes weren't red and slowly circling around.
  • Unlike the Demonic Imp, the Phoenix cannot eat the Giant Rat, even though it is also a monster.
    • Also, unlike the Demonic Imp, it can eat monsters with ease, as the monsters don't deal damage towards it.
  • The Phoenix is one of the few animals in EvoWorld.io that also appears in Mope.io, a similar .io game.
